American Standard toilets are one of the most popular toilet models in the USA and Canada. In fact, they are sold all over the world and combine durable, functional, and attractive design concepts with a price that will make most people smile. As probably the second largest toilet producer, only eclipsed by Toto, American Standard pride themselves on the quality of their product.
One toilet that I have had a good deal of personal experience with is the American Standard Cadet 3 toilet. Although not the top of the range, the Cadet 3 is a stylish performer which uses a combination toilet tank and bowl and a very low water consumption per flush of only 1.26 gallons of water. This environmentally conservative approach has resulted in the Cadet 3 to be a certified toilet under the WaterSense program of the EPA.
Available in both round bowl or elongated bowl models, the Cadet 3 is a two piece toilet with a ceramic glaze that is hard wearing and has a special anti-microbial surface which inhibits mold and bacteria, allowing for easy cleaning and preventing the build up of bacteria and stains that can cause smells.
This toilet has been installed in both my restrooms for around the last three years and has given me not a single problem worth speaking of. There was a minor blockage after my 3 year old stuck a whole toilet roll down the pan, but I don't think we can really blame American Standard for that.
Another toilet in the range that seem to get the top customer reviews are the Champion 4 toilet. This one has the largest flush valve and trap-way in the industry. The flush is quiet but powerful, and the company have prided themselves on their video showing the toilet flushing away a bucket of golf balls.
The Champion 4 also includes an EverClean surface to reduce the adherence of mold, mildew, algae, and fungus. It makes the toilets very easy to get clean and a quick wipe will bring that almost mirror finish surface back to life. I have always found that cleaning the toilet can be an ongoing job, especially with children, so I am grateful that the job has been made somewhat easier.
There is little doubt that you can certainly buy a cheaper toilet than the American Standard toilet. But the quality of the products ensures that you will have many years of valuable service, and an after sales backup that you can rely on. Over the last 10 years or so, there is little doubt that the major manufacturers are trying to create products that have a lot more design flair rather than pure utility. Minimalist toilets are really in vogue, but unfortunately, it seems that American Standard have not delved into that market as much as some of their competitors.
